Marteaux Guillaume

This winemaker carefully tends his vines on 8.5 hectares in Bonneil, a UNESCO World Heritage Site village, in the Vallée de la Marne subregion of Champagne. The vineyard thrives on clay-silt, clay-limestone, marl and clay soils. A vein of sand crosses a slope in the vineyard, adding diversity to the local terroir and giving the wines complex and original characteristics. Guillaume’s estate is certified organic, he farms biodynamically, and makes his own barrels. He uses only hand-picked grapes from his own vineyards and wild yeasts for his natural vinification.

Marteaux Guillaume Champagne

  • Esprit Terroir, Brut Nature, 2016

A deep gold color, this composition of character particularly highlights the Bonneil terroir. Thanks to its vinification in oak barrels, this wine has benefitted from a micro-natural oxygenation which gives it deep aromas and a slight imprint of tannin in the mouth. Alternately, freshness, minerality, then exotic fruits and saffron spices offer themselves to your senses.

2016 Vintage. Aged six years on lees and one year in oak barrel. Zero dosage. Classic champagne blend of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier.

Régis Poissinet

This family-run estate was started in 1947 and still today Régis works the soil with horses in his picturesque 7 hectares of vineyards, aerating the earth on steep inclines that would otherwise be inaccessible. His 35 parcels, which extend over five villages (Baslieux, Cuchery, Leuvrigny, Mareuil le Port, Troissy) with varying terroirs in the Marne Valley, are certified organic and farmed biodynamically without herbicides. Fauna and flora flourish freely in his vineyards, and the exchange between the soil and the vines’ root systems is stimulated thanks to the presence of a huge variety of living microorganisms. The result is amazingly fresh and unique champagnes.

Michel Genet

Michel Genet founded his champagne house in the 1960s in the highly regarded Grand Cru village of Chouilly in the Côtes des Blancs subregion of Champagne. Today, his daughter and two sons take an artisanal approach to growing and managing their family-run champagne house.

The terroir is predominantly limestone with sedimentary rock composed of chalk, marl and limestone. All vineyards are processed by hand with respect for nature (lutte raisonnée), harvested manually, and vinified separately. This way they can guarantee a very high-quality champagne that easily exceeds most branded champagnes and for which they have been awarded many accolades.
